Worrying is par for the course when it comes to parenting. When you have a child with special needs it is amplified. When Nellie was little I would always worry about her being teased by other kids when she got into school. My husband wanted me to home school her because he couldn't bare the thought of her feelings being hurt. Well, Nellie is now 9 and she has been in school for 5 years and we haven't encountered any problems. In fact it's quite the contrary. Although she is in a class with other special needs children she does mingle with the other typical students in her school. Last year there were about 6 kids from a typical 5th grade class that just adored Nellie. They would greet her happily each day on the playground and include in their play. Nellie has a lot of balance issues and she is quite delayed but they would modify the games for her. They really made her day more enjoyable.
I am amazed at how nice and thoughtful children can be. We don't often hear about a great group of kids being kind and thoughtful. These kids give me great hope for our future. I will try to spend less time worrying.
On a different note, I love November. When I look at my November calendar it is not overflowing with with notes all over it reminding of all i have to do. Of course with 3 children we still have a lot going on but it is not overwhelming like other months. I'm thankful for November.
